I worked on a school renovation project In the early 2000s. When we went in to do selective demo in the mechanical yard there was some suspect insulation on one of the pipes that was discovered after some of the guys had been working in there for about a week. We stopped the work, sealed off the room, and sent out samples for testing (asbestos is a hazardous material and removal is under a specialty license and specialty contractor, typically not in our scope as the GC). THE VERY NEXT DAY half the crew called in sick saying “I gots the asbestositis” (it’s called asbestosis, and you don’t see symptoms for years after repeated and constant exposure). I advocated for firing them all, but because they were claiming a potential “workplace injury” the mechanical sub had to entertain their nonsense.
If we have to march off into the next world, let us walk there on the bodies of our enemies.
Maybe it's time to rethink "pics or it didn't happen" .
