If we have to march off into the next world, let us walk there on the bodies of our enemies.
I literally became the IT guy at the newspaper I worked for. I started as a graphic artist. Quite a few of the IT guys in the newspaper industry started as either artists or photographers. That's because those were the first departments to get small computers. Some of us loved them and became the de facto computer people, and eventually the official computer people. In my case, when the paper switched from "paste up" to electronic layout, I was the ideal person to run the pre-press department. I had a foot in both worlds.
When I first started, we (they) were running an IBM PDP-1145. A version of the sign below was posted on the "Computer Room" door. We didn't have the the eagle, swastika, or "Heil Hitler"
My experiences included people worrying about "file size", long after terabytes got way cheap, now a TB=$25:

Are you sure you got the memory chip?
