What the Dali Lama actually said about guns:

Students, in a question-and-answer period, asked some hard questions.
One girl wanted to know how to react to a shooter who takes aim at a classmate.
The Dalai Lama said acts of violence should be remembered, and then forgiveness should be extended to the perpetrators.
But if someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, he said, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun. Not at the head, where a fatal wound might result. But at some other body part, such as a leg.

You hear the shoot to wound all the time. Perhaps in his case, his statement is philosophical and from lack of knowledge.
I read the same thing in a stupid novel about the FBI (written by a 'master' crime author), where the agent watches a cop get shot without intervening earlier and then she tries to shoot the crook in the shoulder to disable him, misses (into his head, DRT) and is upset.
However, I don't want to derail the thread from the funny pictures. We can discuss the D.L. in detail elsewhere.
