For smart commentary on the Middle East:

Call me Back by Dan Senor I’d never heard of him before. It is EXCELLENT.

    Commentary Magazine podcast

Hugh Hewitt show For smart and reasonable center-right daily news and commentary with excellent regular guests (Adm. Stavridis; Pompeo; Cotton; Robert C O'Brien; many more)

    Jocks Podcast

    Honestly with Bari Weiss

Jordan Peterson: His older stuff was better. Do yourself a favor and go back and listen to his Biblical series. And then do it again.

SOG Cast for pure Vietnam war badassery. When I was in middle school I read every book in the library about the VN war. Now I can listen to these real-life, brass-balled heroes!

The Glenn Show is excellent. Glenn Loury and John McWhorter taking on all issues and comers, with intellectual integrity.

Martyr Made: I don’t agree with his current Middle East take, but you should absolutely listen to Fear and Loathing in Jerusalem

Hardcore History: Deep dives into everything you need and want to know about WW1, Genghis Khan, and much, much more

One of the podcasts thread from a few years ago.

I don't have much of a commute anymore, so Risky Business is the only thing I actually make time for.

They're the new reality TV echo chamber.
We may lose and we may win, but we will never be here again.......

What makes you say that? I feel like most of the podcasts I listen to are quite informative, and at times also quite entertaining.

    Some of my favorite podcasts:
    • The Team House (mostly SOF/IC storytelling)
    • This American Life (storytelling, typically non-fiction)
    • Radiolab (storytelling typically centered around some scientific thing)
    • Several by NYT (The Daily, The Runup, Hard Fork)
    • Serial (long form storytelling over a season)
    • A bunch by The Economist (The Intelligence, Babbage, Checks & Balance, Money Talks, etc.)
    • War on the Rocks (military analysis)
    • The Journal (daily news story by WSJ)
    • A bunch by NPR (The NPR Politics Podcast, Planet Money, Throughline, etc.)
    • A bunch by CSIS (Russian Roulette, ChinaPower, The Truth of the Matter, etc.)

None. I read. Writing forces people to organize their thoughts.

So many podcasts give the impression some people just got together with recording equipment for an "interview" or to riff on/talk about a topic with hardly any organization. I don't have time for that kind of unfocused content.

Can't read while driving, which is where I listen to podcasts.

    My list:
    Camerosity (analog photography)
The Catch Bit Show (traditional pocket knives)
    Classic Camera Revival (analog photography)
Dan Carlin's Hardcore History (clue is in the name)
Gunday Brunch (guns, duh, but I generally catch the Youtube version)
Ham Radio All Portable Discussion (again, clue is in the name)
Ham Radio Workbench (amateur radio engineering)
I Dream of Cameras (analog photography, but not great)
The Joe Rogan Experience (mainly skip the MMA and comedian episodes and listen to the ones where he interviews interesting people)
Negative Positives Film Photography Podcast (see a pattern here?)

Several of the podcasts in the list above don't have a written-word equivalent, so a podcast or Youtube channel is the only way to consume the content. I listen to these rather than music or news while I'm in the car.

Eh, it's all what you make of it. It's a hell of a lot better than the now defunct idea of ~3-5 major news networks that force feed everyone a controlled set of viewpoints. They pump out viewers that become little more than stereotypes with no discernment and little to no independent thought outside of the mold they've been given.

There's several great things about podcasts and long format content like that, particularly from independent creators. For one, usually no bureaucracy to get in the way and control viewpoints. Also, over time, their viewpoints and biases tend to become obvious. It can become much easier to take the good, filter out the bad, and move on when you need to.

Mrs CF likes the podcast You Are Not Broken, which is mostly about female issues.
