Honestly, that flight profile for the center core was nuts; the fact it got as close as it did (on-drone-ship camera caught the fiery splash down) is still pretty impressive. I'm looking forward to reading/seeing more post-failure-analysis.
aye. I watched the 4 hour vid (skipped through the boring parts ) and was like ooo it's gonna make it! then you saw it go boom. you can see the thrust wash right over the deck; I'm wondering if it didn't so an abort to keep from crashing into the ship; aka not enough ΔV to keep from splatting on the deck. damaging the drone ship would be a bad idea. As I said though, I'm sure we'll find out soon enough. EM doesn't seem to like to hide these kinds of problems. I mean, there's this awesome video...
