Had two - a semi and revolver. Now I don't. I got over the 'it's cheap' mind set.
The most atrocious Tarus gun ever is that polymer 38 snub with a puke green grip and refrigerator white frame.
Not to say that I haven't had Smiths and Glocks that weren't outstanding.
Back in the day I read in gun magazines how Taurus was "just as good as" smith and Beretta including a favorable review of the Taurus PT 92/99 by a guy named Ken Hackathorn who was supposed to know what he was talking about.
This was in the late 80s when Taurus supposedly still had "good quality".
I put a few thousand rounds through the PT 99. Maybe 3k. It had to go back to Taurus three times. Once for a broken rear site, once for an extractor which broke and disappeared in the middle of a firing string and once for a broken locking block.
In fairness to the general Beretta design, I didn't notice the extractor was gone right away. The gun still functioned as a blowback without an extractor at least 50% of the time.
I also had a Taurus model 85, 85 shot 38 snubnose revolver. Apparently the hole for the screw which held the cylinder yoga crane assembly in place was oversize. It would come loose on the recoil and tie up the gun - when you opened the cylinder the whole cylinder would fall out.
Despite my advice my cousin bought a Taurus PT 99 also. He also had the rear site break had a locking block break and had a frame cracking issue which required the gun to be replaced. He was living in New York at the time where all your handguns must be registered and listed on your license by sero-number. It was easier getting Taurus to replace the gun that and getting them to issue a letter explaining the Oldframe had to be destroyed so they could take it off his license.
I still have the generation one Glock 17 which replaced that PT 99 and it is still going strong.

I had three different Taurii back in the 80's and early 90's. They were all raving pieces of shite.
We may lose and we may win, but we will never be here again.......
