'Splain to me the 5x5x5 drill....

So recently I've been working on the 5x5x5 and I think I'm doing it right, but I see some people are doing it differently. How much of the 'difference' is ratcheting up the difficulty vs me not doing the drill right.

    What I'm doing:

    1. Using a 5" or B8/B16 or some other 5" scoring area. I know the NRA targets are a bit larger.
    2. Putting it at 5 yds.
    3. From AIWB draw I'm trying to put 5 rounds in under 5 seconds.

    What I see others doing/saying:

    1. same.
    2. same.
    3. Going from ready, high ready, but not from holster and then trying to keep it in 9/10 rings.

    Questions:

    1. Is it from ready or holster?
    2. Concealed or not?
    3. Inside the 5" or supposed to be smaller?

Obviously, most of my questions are 'depends'. So, if I've moved from a 4.03 clean on the slow side from concealment on 11/29/15; 3.55 clean from concealment on the 12/6/15; and this past Sunday, I ran my first sub 3 second clean from concealment at 2.99 and 2.91, I'm assuming I should now move towards a tighter group in the 9/10 ring?

    2.99: 1.66/40/33/32/28
    2.91: 1.65/35/31/30/30

Please advise oh wise ones of the PF clan.

ETA: I've trie to look up the 5x5x5 drill, but that's what's leading to some of these questions.

I say from the draw is the right way. From the ready is basically a 1 second split for each shot which seems kinda slow. Never done the 5x5x5 but do enjoy the 5x5 and the 10x10x10 lol

And based in your times I say it's time to add a reload in there. I've never done the 5x5x5 but in the 10x.. Version I add a reload. Last time I ran the 10x.. Drill I had a RMR so I don't know if I could do it as fast lol

Also a different course of fire. The 5x5x5 that the op seems to be referencing is the one that Tom Givens' wife Lynn developed. I may be mistaken, but thats what i remember.

I thought Gila Hayes designed the drill and find it to be a bit too easy as designed. Probably a good test for novices. http://loungecdn.luckygunner.com/lou.../5x5-drill.pdf

I've found the several variations of the 5rds-5yds-5secs-5" drill to be a good indicator of a basic, beginning competency.
