There’s a sharp lip at the transition that catches my finger when I run it.
Time to Dremel….

Going to call the Practice upper #1 and Match upper #2. Now that they are set up the same I can alternate freely.
Upper 1: 10900 of Syntech 150
Rounds since cleaned: gas 900, bolt 900
Parts broken: 0
Items replaced due to wear:
Tappet gas ring 5500 rounds, $2.50 replacement.
Extractor spring and donut at 5750 rounds ~$5.00
Tappet #2 gas ring 5000 rounds
Gas plug #1, 2 gas rings 5000 rounds ~$12
Firing pin and spring 10000 rounds ~$42
Hammer pins and springs 10000 rounds ~$12
Extractor spring and donut at 10000 rounds
Malfunctions after the initial tuning: 5
1. Second to last round jam in new 20 round plus extension, subsequently no issues.
2. Trigger didn’t reset once during a session, DUE TO MY ERROR INSTALLING hammer spring legs under the pin and the pin walked.
3. FTE replaced the extractor spring and donut at 5750
4. FTE at 2600 on gas system without cleaning and 2500 on extractor spring
5. FTL at 10000 rounds early in practice mag 2. Will try and tune mag.
———-
Upper 2: 2700
Rounds since cleaned: 750
Malfunctions: initial tuning phase
1. Single FTL with 20 round mag in 30 degree weather with full magazine attributable to a caulked charging handle not allowing bolt closure. Resolved with stock charging handle and tested in cold.
2. Had another FTL with a new 30 round mag and extension that I had not ever used before. I had a FTL about 5 rounds in.
3. FTL with Syntech and FTE with Lawman. Same magazine as #2. Changed recoil springs to known red -25% strength, changed extractor spring and post, changed magazine spring and follower. With no malfunctions after.
4. FTL with Syntech, same magazine. 1250 rounds since cleaning. Clean and polish feed lips and magazine. Polished feed ramp of barrel.
5. FTL with Syntech, still that same magazine #3 early into the mag. Am going to swap the spring from my practice mag into the #3 body.
Rounds since last malfunction: 0
Looky looky….
Muffler….
I tried something different in the name of experimentation.
I had lightly lubed some cases (something I did in the X95 when I had the full power spring but wimpy gamer ammo, before cutting the spring) to help loading with the flat nose bullets.
With magazine #3 AGAIN had an issue but in this case was a double feed that I’ve never experienced before.
I can only imagine that the case lube contributed to that by making it too slippery and two rounds forwarded at once.
I won’t do that again, lol.

I practiced today using just magazine #3 and had the FTL issues.
It turned out to be binding of the follower in the channel.
I suspect a lot of the previous FTL issues are more related to magazine rather than gun itself, but partially because “gamified” setups run softer everything so there isn’t as much dirt / binding resistance because springs are effectively softer with mag extensions.
If I wanted more margin back I could drill the gas port a little and use less soft recoil springs and increase mag springs. But I’m concerned that more gas will cause more recoil and things are working well enough for now for me.

Rounds since last malfunction: 250
After a flawless 250 last session, I had a few FTL with full mags during this session, still with magazine #3.
I have to do a little experimenting with why this combination is being picky.
Is it this magazine #3 that is just problematic?
Should I be bore snaking the barrel more often?
We shall see. That’s what this journey is about.

Since magazine #3 seems to cause problems on a fairly regular basis, and since you're obviously not averse to spending money, I'm curious as to why you don't just shitcan it and buy another one?
FOR THE SCIENCE!!!!!
I’m not using that magazine at matches. But for practice, I kind of want to figure out the problem.
It helps me learn the gun and system. Something running perfectly doesn’t help me learn as much as something that can induce failure.
It lets me experiment with magazine springs, tension, bullet profile, gas system and recoil springs for how they all interplay.
@Default.mp3 suggested CLR and now that the weather is nicer and I can clean outside rather than inside the basement, I decided to try the solvent…
Works really well!
I think I might first just do gas system and perhaps barrel.
I also might start trying @HCM anti-seize lube on the piston.
Shot a match just with magazine #1, no issues.
