    S&W Model 1 Third Issue

    From Wikipedia:

The Model 1 3rd Issue represented a substantial redesign for the Model 1, with a fluted cylinder, a round barrel and a rounded "bird's head" style grip. Finishes included nickel plating (on both the frame and barrel) and blued steel. Produced from 1868 through 1882, the 3rd Issues were serial numbered from 1 through approximately 131,000
Saw this sitting on the shelf of a local gun shop and thought it deserved a home for the holidays. It's in rough shape but appears to be in working condition.

C&R because ammo is available for it.

Does the cylinder lock up? If it does I'd pop a cap with it. Not that you should, but I would.

The cylinder does lock up but I have no caps to pop. Have to add 22 short black powder to my shopping list of archaic cartridges, along with some 8x22 Nambu.

CCI and Aguila both make rounds you can easily get that work in these guns for fun. I've shot several pre 1900s .22short revolvers with Colibri ammo. It works well as a low pressure plinking round. So does the CB caps

    Chuck speaks truth.

Get you some CCI CB shorts and knock yourself out.

BATFE regs classify it as an antique. No FFL necessary for transfer. If it were a modern replica of a No.1, it would not be an antique because of the "uses rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed ammunition which is no longer manufactured in the United States and which is not readily available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade" thing.

Thanks for the correction, Tam, and a good reminder to not rely on memory where ATF regs are concerned.
