In the past I've kept bolt/pin, batteries, lube, and tax stamp copies (not all at the same time).
I generally use Magpul grips now and don't trust their latching so I don't keep anything in there anymore that I don't want to lose. I couldn't come up with a scenario where I needed something desperately that would (a) fit in the grip and (b) not be available some other way nearby.
I suppose that if I thought I was headed off into the wilderness to survive the RAHOWA or whatever I might keep a bolt/pin in there again, but even then it'd probably be batteries for the light. The light would get used way more than the bolt.
I'm just going off on a tangent here but damn, Magpul dropped the ball (in my opinion) with their silly grip compartment modules. Just give me a watertight little door like BCM does.

^^ I've only ever had my grip compartment pop loose once on a course and that was after I took it out to show someone and didn't latch it properly. That being said, if my rifle was anything more than just a range blaster, the bits would be in something more secure.
