    2015-2016 Whitetail Deer Season

Dropped my first one of the year today...opening of gun season in TN. 2 1/2 yr old doe. Shot it right between the eyes at 100yds in deep brush. I used to have a "thing" about deer & head shots. It made me uncomfortable for some reason. But after seeing how fast they drop & not loosing a spec of meat, I think I'm hooked.

I have pics but they are very graphic

Nice. I've never taken a head shot, but I was very fond of neck shots until a deer I knocked down and out got up and ran away after I thought she was dead.

I shot a smallish 8 point this morning. I probably should have let him grow, but this will likely be my only day to hunt this year because of the pending birth of Baby #2. Anyway, today's shot was ~150 yards standing offhand. Normally I can shoot from a rest, but I had to make a short stalk today. I hit the deer a little too far back and high, but it tore out a lot of lung, and I think broke his back. He dropped where he stood and died a minute or so later.

I shot a decent-sized 10 point with my bow at about 22 yards a couple weeks back - textbook double lung and straight through the heart. It was late and hot so I was more worried about getting him gutted and dragged out and forgot to take a picture. Sent his head over for a euro mount though.

There's an absolutely gigantic 10 point in the same area. I saw him after I shot the first buck though, so I had to pass on him which was a struggle because he is an absolutely gorgeous animal. I hope he manages to not get harvested or hit by a car as I'd like a shot at him next year.
