Thread: Beretta M9-22

Re; tennis elbow. 12 yrs or so ago I got it bad in my right arm. Cortisone shot and elbow brace fixed it for 18 months and then back. Another cortisone shot and more brace wearing fixed it pretty much permanently. 3 yrs ago it started in the left arm. Went to the same doc, told him what was happening, and expected another shot. He said, ah, we are getting away from them now. He gave me exercises to do. I thought yeah right, sure, they will work-not. 6 weeks of wearing the brace and doing the exercises, and it was gone. Un...beliveable. It is still gone. Every once in a while I will get just a hint of it coming back, so I exercise for a couple weeks and it is gone. The exercises are easy to do. I do them while sitting at the PC. Slows my typing some, but usually I just stop exercises for a few minutes, type, and then start back again and add a few more reps to the total. Best wishes to you solving yours.

    Today's shenanigans:
Test out some new ammo flavors I bought. (Thanks, SG Ammo! )

    Firearm: Beretta M9-22
    Distance: 10 meters
    10 rounds per magazine

    Winchester X22LR
    .22LR 40gr
    Lot #K1919
    50 rounds
Failure to lock back on empty,1st magazine
Failure to strip round 3, 2nd magazine
Failure to strip round 4, 3rd magazine
Failure to strip round 5, Failure to lock back on empty, 5th magazine

    Target number two.
    American Eagle Suppressor AE22SUP1
    .22LR 45gr
    No lot # available
    50 rounds
    No failures of any kind.

    CCI Quiet-22 CCI0960
    .22LR 40gr
    No lot # available
    10 rounds
Failure to eject all rounds. Picture five
Not shooting the rest of the box.
On several shots, I could feel the slide returning home, so there was at least some energy to attempt to cycle, but clearly not enough to do anything useful. Case was never ejecting. Definitely not appropriate for this gun.

    CCI Clean-22 CCI934CC
    .22LR 40gr
    Lot #D27A102
    Very nice shooting.
    No failures.

    Winchester M-22 S22LRTSU8
    .22LR 45gr
    Lot #K7620
Failure to eject last round, 2nd magazine.
Ammo was a bit spitty. I was getting hit with stuff on my left arm specifically.

    CCI Stinger-22 CCI0050
    .22LR 32gr
    Lot #L27Z203
Holy *!#$ the fireball this thing puts out!
First 10 picture shows I got spooked on a couple of shots just from the craziness of this round.
    The recoil impulse is impressive.
Failure to ignite, round 5, 5th magazine.
Ignited on second attempt, removal and rechambered.

    Awesome report!

I've never tried Stingers in anything before... sounds fun! I think CCI is about to owe you credit for a sale.

I gotta say I liked the results with the CCI Clean and AE Suppressor stuff. Both were easier on the ears than your standard supersonic .22's, and they shot REALLY well out of the M9-22, as the targets show.

Oh, and the gun still shoots low as shit, even with the shorter of the two front sights.

More ammo flavor testing, and some bad news that I'll save to the end.
All ammo bought from SG Ammo.

    Firearm: Beretta M9-22
    Distance: 10 meters
    10 rounds per magazine

CCI AR Tactical Ammo Copper Plated Round Nose
    CCI0956
    .22LR 40gr
    Lot #: NLN
    Rounds: 40
Mag 1 Round 3: Failure to Load (weak feeling prior round)
Mag 2 Round 10: Failure to Lock Back
Mag 4 Round 10: Failure to Lock Back
Pretty soft feeling ammo, which would explain the noted failures as not enough energy.

    Fiocchi 22LR High Velocity CPRN
    22FHVCRN
    .22LR 40gr
    Lot #: NLN
    Rounds: 45
Mag 1 Round 4: Failure to Ignite. Re-chambering and striking in a new spot had it work.
Recoil had some spice, but still pretty tame.

Federal Game Shok Copper Plated Solid High Velocity Ammo
    FED710
    .22LR 40gr
    Lot #: NLN
    Rounds: 30
Mag 1 Round 10: Failure to Lock Back
Mag 2 Round 3: Failure to Load
Mag 2 Round 6: Failure to Load
Mag 2 Round 8: Failure to Load
Mag 2 Round 10: Failure to Lock Back
Mag 3 Round 6: Failure to Extract
Mag 3 Round 7: Failure to Load
Mag 3 Round 9: Failure to Load
Mag 3 Round 10: Failure to Lock Back
I aborted further testing after the 3rd mag, as it's obvious this isn't strong enough to cycle the M9-22 correctly.
    Recoil was very mild.

CCI Clean-22 Target Ammo Red Polycoat Round Nose High Velocity
    CCI944CC
    .22LR 40gr
    Lot #: D04A214
    Rounds: 50
Mag 2 ROund 2: Failure to Load
This one seemed to get hung up on the feed ramp. As I was putting the gun downn to take a picture though, the slide went home and chambered the round.
Mag 5 ROund 10: Failure to Lock Back
Pretty light recoil; very easy to get back on target between shots.

Remington Viper Ammo Truncated Cone 1410 FPS Hyper Velocity
    REM1900
    .22LR 36gr
    Lot #: NLN
    Rounds: 30
Mag 1 Round 4: Failure to Load
Mag 2 Round 2: Failure to Load
Mag 2 Round 3: Failure to Load
Mag 2 Round 4: Failure to Load
Stout recoil. Stronger than the Fiocchi tested today, but not nearly as violent as that CCI Stinger stuff from last time. (I think the Stinger stuff gave me PTSD. Ok, not really, but it's still a memorable round!)
Very dirty ammo to handle. Also don't like the box; major pain to get individual rounds out.
As the pictures below show, the step shaped bullet can get caught on the feed ramp pretty easily. This was the cause of every FTL I experienced.

The first 10 rounds thous were pretty promising for accuracy.

Things fell apart a bit though for the next pair of mags,

Now, for the bad news of the day.
The M9-22 broke the safety lever axle again. Looks like i'm putting another call into Beretta.
Last time it broke after about 3500 rounds.
This time it went about 3100 rounds before breaking the same part.

eta: just left a message with Beretta CS for a call back.

On the polycoat CCI, it looks like you may have had some keyholes. I had 7 rounds out of 20 of that stuff keyhole at 7 yards from my P250. Thing shoots great with other ammo.

I'm not so sure about that. Here's the bigger higher-quality image. Take a look and see if you still think this keyholing in the same spots.

"Paint"ed the ones I'm suspicious of. Seem to be oblong, in some cases even with a square end. They're well outside the group, which also goes with key holing.

Ok. I can see how there could be suspicion on those 4. When I shoot more of it (eventually in my other .22 guns as well) I'll make a note to try a little bit more of it in the M9-22 and see if I can get some distinct keyholing shots.

eta: now that I look at my pictures more, you'll need to discount the bottom flyer that's off the target; that came from the FED 710 shoot before the CCI-Clean. I'll also make a note to make sure to pastie the cardboard between ammo changes; I replace the orange target obviously.

I shoot the PF B8s on printer paper. Got the classic perfect sideways bullet outline on a few of them.
