@runcible,
Would it be appropriate to ask for the Ground Security Coordinator in the event of problems checking a firearm?

Just wanted to top this thread with a few questions.
I'm planning to fly on Delta from TPA through ATL to DFW in late March for TacCon. It will be my first time traveling with a firearm. From reading through the thread, my list of stuff I need to bring/assemble is as follows:
Inside a locked (non-TSA lock) Pelican 1200 Camera Case:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000DYV7G...v_ov_lig_dp_it
- Glock 43X + Ruger LCR. LCR unloaded. Glock field stripped.
- Box .38 Federal Gold Medal Match WCs / box 9mm JHP / 4 boxes 9mm AE 115
- 3 Glock magazines
Inside a TSA-locked softsided rollaboard checked luggage:
- The Pelican 1200 Camera Case
- Maglula
- RCS Perun
- 2xMag holsters
- Zip ties
- Pocket knife in outer compartment of bag
In carry-on luggage:
- Printed Copy of Delta.com firearms policy with time stamps
- Printed Copy of TSA Firearm handling regulations with time stamps
Am I missing anything?

Due to one counter agent saying that ammo needs to be separate from the firearm, another wanting to weight the ammo (wanted to check it was under 11 pounds and freaked when I had to touch the firearms to get to the ammo boxes underneath them), and one wanting to see the ammo to make sure it was stored right and not reloads but not the firearms (return trip of above incident and again freaked out that I had to touch the firearms), I now keep my ammo in a separate locked, hard sided case.
I've never field stripped for traveling. I load and carry as soon as it's legal to do so and don't want to reassemble in a rental car. I do use chamber flags and run a bright shoelace through the barrel of revolvers/barrels of semis & down the mag well. Multiple counter and TSA agents have commented they like that as it makes verifying they're unloaded easier for them.
ETA: I travel with extra external suitcase locks in my carry-on as TSA seems to lose them every 5 trips or so when going through the checked bag.

I always use a small stainless cable to lock my small handgun Pelican case to the internal frame of my suitcase (a Pac-Safe soft suitcase with the internal wire mesh anti-cut lining) that way it's much harder for someone to just snag my pistol case to open later at their leisure.
In order to steal my handgun they're going to have to put in some effort, which takes time, which increases their chances of getting caught in the act.

Not that I know anything but if they are still zip tying cases closed in the illusion of security, I would find a pair of medical shears or small dikes (not that kind) in the outside pocket instead of or in addition to the knife to be useful.
Delta still zip ties firearm-containing cases almost every time, IME.
In the past two dozen flights I've taken, they failed to do so only once.
I just keep a CountyComm compact trauma shears in my carry on bag.
