It’s a keeper! Ran 50 rounds today with the OEM mag spring, the Nordic extension and follower. Shooting consisted of a mixture of Federal Reduced Recoil FC, military buck, suprema 9P buck, and some target loads. It cycled everything perfectly and patterned very well with all the buck, but especially well with the FC. At 25 yards with FC I could cover the spread with my hand.
    target is at 12 yards.

My maternal grandfather's bolt action 20 gauge. Kicks like a mule.

He never got to see the beautiful tiger maple hiding in the stock. It was brought out after being cleaned up after he passed (long before my birth).

The jacket is one I used as a kid, and the shell box I picked up somewhere along the way.

This was my father's shotgun when he was on the job. It started as a 28" model 500 in 1973 when he bought it new for $100. He and a friend cut it down to 24" so it would fit better in the trunk of his patrol unit.
They eventually got 870P's for each vehicle, then mini 14's.

When I got it from him 3 months ago, I had it made to a 18.5"

Came across this 20 gauge youth model 11-87 at a pawn shop today. Was able to pick it up for $550 out the door. It had some crud on the outside that may have been rust. Whatever it was it cleaned up pretty easy. The gun has not been shot much at all. If the gas piston wasn't dirty I might think the gun was unfired.

I'll use it as a stand-in for my 11-87 Police 12ga when I don't feel like destroying my shoulder or my bank account. Choate still makes 20ga mag extensions. The barrel on it is 20" so not sure if I'll bother trying to find/make a shorter barrel or not.

A close friend set one of those up for his wife as an HD option, she did quite well with it. He went all the way and sent the barrel to Vang and he did his magic, sans the porting. Limited buckshot choices of course but it worked very well in terms of improving patterns. He left the 21" vent rip as is and put a fiber optic on the front sight.
