I spoke to the owner at Diamond Gunsmithing in Ithaca (former head 'smith at Ithaca Gun Company for decades) - a set of sights mounted to my barrel (also being further shortened to 18") would be $400+, and fitting a period rifle sighted 21" barrel would be $350+. Ithaca models before serial #855xxx (approximately 1955) all need individual head spacing and fitment.
I'd rather put the do$h into a more modern gun and training.

Most all of the polar bears around here are easily subdued with a warm robe and a hot toddy.

The best part about that story is it was not even a unique situation.

Commissioner Stern said it was the first fatal incident involving a bear in a New York City zoo in five years.
On Sept. 26, 1982, a 29-year-old man was found dead inside the polar bear cage at the Central Park Zoo. He had apparently climbed a series of fences to get inside the cage and was killed by Scandy, a 1,200-pound bear.
I think the fitted barrels were a thing till Ď65.

My Dadís 37, which was purchased new in Ď62 or Ď63 falls in the fitted barrel serial number range.

    Iíll check out diamond.

Not the best pic, sorry about that--I'm on the run right now.

I'll grab a better shot of the ghost ring tomorrow.

Bought an 11-87 today but thanks to CBI being backed up and my work schedule I won't be able to pick it up for a week. I'll be honest, I don't know how well I did. I'm sure I didn't get the deal of the century or probably even of the week but I know enough to know that this should be a good scattergun. I've bought guns from this shop before for fair prices so I said screw it and bought it without looking into the prices.

Come, mother, come! For terror is thy name, death is in thy breath, and every shaking step destroys a world for e'er. Thou 'time', the all-destroyer! Come, O mother, come!

A friend of a friend of a friend wanted to unload this pretty nice 1100 for $300 so I jumped on it. The extra barrel was just lopped off, not terribly but not well either and there's no bead on it so I'll probably have a smith cut it to 18" and put a bead on it, maybe even thread it for chokes. Don't have a plan because I wasn't looking for one of these but I couldn't pass up that price.

A look through the Weaver Quick-sight. It doesn't show up on camera well but if you look really close you can kinda see a red dot in there. The top of the sight has a fiber optic rod and it gathers light and bounces it down into the tube you look through. The bead isn't high enough to co-witness but with taller sights it would be possible.

I hunted grouse with a Winchester Model 12 with one of those Weaver
Quik Point sights on it, yesterday.
The sight has been on the gun since the late 1970s and it still works.

Saw no grouse, unfortunately. Saw a large, single turkey but had no
    turkey license.

The old Model 12 in 16 gauge was the first shotgun I took turkey
    hunting many years ago.

I still own a 1933 Model 12 in sixteen gauge! An engineering masterpiece.
