.300 Blackout gel test: 200 gr subsonic REAPR

    https://youtu.be/fTne55R3dK8

200 gr subsonic REAPR fired from 8" 1:7" AR into calibrated 10% ordnance gelatin, with and without four layers of denim.

    BB calibration: 597.3 fps, 3.6"

The sun was not co-operating so impact velocity was not recorded on either shot. I intend to test this some more but I only have a few so I didn't want to "waste" any on just a velocity.

OK. It's official. I don't want to be shot with that thing. It looks like a wide-bodied treble fish hook.

Once again a nice video, Andrew.

    Lol. Yeah, it's pretty nasty.

That is a vicious looking bullet. Recoil looked minimal. Maybe I missed something, but any idea why the first shot went through everything and the 2nd got stopped at the first water jug?

What is considered the effective range of that round? Any idea what the velocity threshold is for expansion? Lastly, if shot from a 14.5"/16" barrel, how much more, if any, velocity is gained?

Yes, the recoil was what you would expect from a pistol caliber carbine. The denim prevented expansion on the first shot.

I don't know the answer to the other questions.

That is the one troubling thing about the bullet--and it is quite troubling because real-world shootings tend to result in bullets that look like bullets shot through denim. If failure to expand is normal through denim, I'd guess one would be better off with a 16 inch barrel, which would presumably ramp up the velocity a bit and might help expansion.

I should point out that this is a subsonic load intended for discrete hunting, not defense.

I said this on another forum but I feel the need for repeating here: thanks for your hard work.

While this is a hunting load that underperforms against denim, it is a step in the right direction. The ammunition industry has been painfully slow in developing decent subsonic bullets for the 300blk. At least this performs well under ideal conditions - that's more than I can say for anything else on the subsonic market.

I like my rifles like my women - short, light, fast, brown, and suppressed.
