Robert Mitchum is a true old school lifter. The plans he use work.

100+ degree (it was hot!) outside lifting yesterday. Day before I squared, pressed, and benched.

    100 curl/kickback combo 20lb dumbbells
    100 back flys 20lb dumbbells
    100 shoulder presses 20lb dumbbells
    100 forearm extensions 20lb dumbbells

    100 85lb straight bar curls
100 kick backs with 25lb plates

    15 125lb clean and presses

I tried to walk with the 125 on my back but the bar was too hot to rest on my back.

Then went to the gym and deadlifted 340 for 3x3

Those type of workouts are not going to get me huge, but I like doing them every so often. Especially during the summer as they are the best medicine for stress and feeling better. I’ve lost weight and maintained my strength so I’m happy with that .

When it gets cooler I’ll probably try to increase my strength.

I’ll send you another program RM sent me. It’s simple and excellent, and it will help you. 3x5 or 5x5 only works for so long, but they are excellent programs.

    Almost 70,
Are you squatting and/or deadlifting to any degree during these 6 weeks? - I do trap bar squats and partial deadlifts to keep blood in those areas.
I have gained weight, was 235 now 245 on a 6-foot 4-inch frame and honestly feel better and stronger.
245 is still light use to walk around 265 to 290 but that was a long time ago.

I take a lot of NutraKey Arginine Powder & Nutricost L-Citrulline Malate Powder.

Surprisingly I am not sore the next day, after week 2 got use to the program.

Soon I will be focusing on some more stuff that the very kind and knowledgeable Robert Mitchum sent me, but I wanted at least one more hi rep squat workout first.

Lifted all week, including multiple heavy singles on all major lifts and hi rep arm workouts. Today I did a couple of sets of OHP and then Squated.

    Squats today- 225 x 35
    135 x 40

That is not a lot of weight, but I was spent after each set. Especially the 225 set. I am content with it because I was so unrested and wore out from the early workouts in the week.

Hope everyone else is having good times in the gym.

Did a 320-pound Bench press on Monday.
Not the smoothest rep I have ever done... but for an Old Bastard I'll take it.
Video came out dark, so plates are hard to see.
This was loaded on both sides.

    Weight Lifting

Last lift for this block before the deload week. Been doing a conjugate based program and I am loving it. The mix of heavy and lighter speed days are great.

After I retired, I set up a good basic gym in my garage, with a rack, enough plates and bars, and a rower. This past week I added a few items to allow me do do some other things.

I stumbled across this at a Play It Again Sports for under $100. There is one at the PD/FD gym and I’ve missed using it.

I ordered some farmer carry handles, I think that’s an important exercise. I used the trap bar at the gym for that. I have a trap bar at home now but wrangling it in and out of the garage is cumbersome.

I have a 35 lb kettlebell from Walmart but I wanted a heavier one. Onnit had these on sale, and who doesn’t like orangutans?

That is some great weight on the squat. Wish I could even begin to approach those numbers.

    @BobM

Awesome setup. I need to get my own gym setup. What I have at work can be close to a personal gym in a sense, but nothing beats having one at home. How often are you lifting?

Being the genius I am, I did those hi rep squats after smoking myself with heavy weights earlier in the week. Then my AC started leaking and I had the joy of crawling around the attic for a day while my legs felt like they weighed an extra 100 pounds.
