    We used to call running the whole slide assembly off the frame before turning the bushing "the Air Force method." I don't know just why, maybe because an AFPG match gun is very tight.

    The comp is larger than the hole in the bushing wrench. So you can't fit the comp through the bushing wrench. And you don't want to routinely remove the comp. Thus with the barrel out of battery, you slip bushing wrench over the barrel from below, and then work it as normal.

    Unless you are running a comp on a bushing barrel, you don't need to do it.
