Very unusual for these parts of the interviews to be released like this.
Maybe it is the new status-quo, maybe it's to show the empathy the officers involved.

The part that irritates me the most is that the general public will villanize these officers for the rest of their careers as if they both put on their vests in the morning in hopes of taking a life.

Look! Just because we're bereaved, that doesn't make us saps!
In my view, it would have been po'-lice malpractice if he didn't shoot him.....

Gun Free Zones Aren’t an Inhibition….they’re an Invitation.
The officer did exactly what he was trained to do.
Fleeing subject for an unknown reason
Failure to comply
Quick exit out of vehicle
Fast hand movements into a concealed pocket while disregarding commands
Was the officer supposed to wait for the subject to produce a firearm? Absolutely not.

Any other information on the case. Why was the guy running? Most importantly why get out of the car unless an officer specifically asks you too? I really don't get this whole I'm getting out of the car syndrome that seems to be going around. Stay in your damned car, take the ticket and continue drawing breath. Nooooo, lets get out and then double down on stupid by reaching in a pocket.
The kid was playing pretend tough guy and went full retard when police showed up. His idiotic actions got him killed and 2 men will now have to live with having killed a child. Plus whatever legal, financial and social price they pay. What else do we need to know.
I have never been, nor never will be, a police officer. However, you don't need to be one while watching those interviews to feel the agony. To see trained, experienced, veteran officers reduced to that level of pain (for doing their jobs) because the "raising your son ball" was dropped many years ago in that child's life is a sad commentary on child-rearing in America today. I've never understood, and probably never will, why in THE hell, when someone is given a lawful order - they choose to do the opposite. All this child had to do was do what the officers were telling him to do. It's painfully honest this child never heard that you're supposed to do what a police officer tells you to do. Instead, he heard it was cool to "play pretend tough guy/go full retard (thanks, TAZ)" and is now dead as as result. So many lives trashed needlessly.
