Just watched The French Connection. Not as good as I remembered.
Adding nothing to the conversation since 2015....

I think that was on intergalactic cable.

I can watch all kinds of unfathomable violence with my dad or my nephew (because I am a bad influence). No boobs.

The SAAs were okay. I thought Ed Harris (The Man In Black) made the LeMatt look a lot more appealing--and he even loaded the 20ga center at one point! I've always been a sucker for the Remington 1875, which is conspicuously absent in favor of the Colt 1851 Navy and 1870 Army. Although I don't own a single single-action. I'd get into CAS, but I just can't get into the costumes. I mean, I'd wear them, but holy hell I'd look dumb.

I watched it again a couple of weeks ago. I had the same reaction.

News of the World, a western made in 2020 starring Tom Hanks. You kind of know what you're getting even before the movie starts with this lead actor, and no big surprises here. This is a fairly slow drama about an old man escorting an orphan girl to her relatives. There is a little bit of shooting along the way but it's really not that sort of a movie. It's about the man and the girl finding their place in the world and the bond that forms between them.

Overall, while you might think this wouldn't be my cup of tea I liked it. It was well made, written and acted. Not quite sure about just all the historical nuances, and the regular folks sure had a lot of new and expensive guns as per usual, but still.

And I'm really liking this trend of making westerns again! Now if we could just light a fire under that Firefly sequel that in any sane universe ought to be in the works...

Master and Commander seems another of those movies ruined by the book(s).

    (See what I did there?)

Everyone I know that HASN’T red the book(s) loves it, everyone that has read the books gives it a meh at best. Thankfully I’m in the former group.

It remains, however, the best management training book for construction management I’ve ever seen.

Finished Extraction the other day. It's a fun shoot-em-up action flick. Plot's not bad but is the plot really that important? Apparently India gets their body armor from wish.com because one or two rounds of 9mm was plenty to drop the generic fully armored Indian troopers who's corpses would shortly litter the streets.

Weren't they Bangladeshi troops (which might make it *slightly* more believable)?

I enjoyed New of The World when I saw it in the theater and bought it PPV so my 92yo Mom could watch it. She really liked it, but she's a big Hanks fan -I'm not usually. I would love a Firefly sequel and new series done by about anyone except Whedon who's a hard core anti-gunner & pro-abortion at any time up to delivery.

Saw Jolt on Amazon Prime, starring Kate Beckinsale as a woman who has very bad anger-management issues. She wears a vest that she can use to shock herself (hence the title) so she can keep from killing everyone who irritates her.

It was fairly (and stupidly) entertaining.
