I finally watched King Kong Lives, the sequel to the '70's King Kong remake. It is laughably bad and believe it or not even includes some "redneckspolitation"! I feel bad for Linda Hamilton who plays the human female lead (the credits list the men in the King Kong and Lady Kong suits first) who transplants an artificial heart in Kong before he fights the 82nd Airborne. I cannot recommend it but am glad I saw it.

It was free on the Roku channel. I have to admit that these days I mainly watch "genre" films. I use movies as an escape and diversion. For example I just started a Species marathon, I have only seen the first of the four films and it definitely falls in the b movie category. I feel almost as bad for Melanie Griffith in the first Species as I do for Linda Hamilton in King Kong Lives as both have very brief nude scenes in these stinkers. After I finish the Species movies in a week or so I plan on revisiting the Howling series. Some of those will be tough to suffer through but someone has to do it!
MIDNIGHT DINER: TOKYO STORIES on NETFLIX is a great show that revolves around the customers of a late night eatery in Tokyo run by a cook/owner called only Master. Insights in Japanese contemporary life and rather low key drama stories make it refreshing to watch. Episodes on 30 minutes or so long and revolve around a particular customer and their lives outside of the eatery: gambler with a kid, son whose mom just died and haunts him, comical office love triangle, former children’s show tv star rediscovered by grown up fan, widow who crosses paths with former lover, etc.
There are two other seasons but I have only seen them available on blu Ray.

Just got back from seeing They Shall not Grow Old. It's made from original WWI footage using actual interviews of WWI vets. It basically describes the life of a WWI British infantryman on the western from from enlistment to homecoming but it's all told from the vets themselves. No historians explaining things or any of that. Make a point to go see this movie and stay after to see the making of documentary.
Few of us in MI are going to see that on 12/27...really looking forward to it.
INSIDE THE REAL NARCOS on NETFLIX.
Episodes in Mexico, Colombia, and Peru.
Very dark docu-series hosted by a British SF guy retracing the drug pipeline in the americas.
The common refrain of poor people seeking to use some form of vice as a way to get some form of a flourishing life, only to have it end in death and diseaster is the never ending cliche of life for the unfortunate, it seems.
Recommended. Graphically violent images and stories.

Natasha Henstridge played Sil, though Marg was in it.
