    Kesari

Available on Amazon Prime, Kesari is a 2019. Indian film based on the September 12, 1897, Battle of Saragarhi, where twenty-one soldiers of the 36th Sikhs held off in excess of 10000 Afghans for six hours until the last man, a signalman in his final message to the neighboring fort, requested permission to leave his post and take up his rifle. When the outpost was retaken by British forces, there were more than six hundred Afghan casualties in and around the fort. I watched Kesari based on a recommendation of a youtube channel on historic movies that "warned" of the production style of Hindi/Bollywood films. This is not your typical war film and in the opening statement, there is a disclaimer to the effect that it is not a documentary but a fictionalized retelling of a last stand. There are many things in this movie that would normally annoy me. But, even with dubious to down right silly gun stuff, over the top fight scenes, about every war movie trope you can imagine, and even a couple of Bollywood musical numbers, the movie is visually stunning and well acted to the point that I found I had stopped needing the sub-titles. If nothing else, it is something different.

We saw Scream VI last night, or what is affectionately known as 6Cream.

It was pretty descent. Not really a spoiler, but there was some BS in the last 5 minutes that knocked it down a full star for me in a 10 star rating system. Even so, I’m going to give it 7/10. Also, was our first time seeing a feature length movie in 4DX, which was a novelty.

Has anyone watched the Netflix documentary about the disappearance of Malaysia Flight 370? I’ll probably give it a shot.
Just a dog chauffeur that used to hold the dumb end of the leash.

I haven’t seen it mentioned so I’ll mention it — The Glory on Netflix (Korean). A fellow shooter and Facebook friend who is of Korean heritage recommended it a few days ago, describing it as a Count of Monte Cristo-esque tale of elaborate Machiavellian revenge. That it is, and it is extraordinarily excellent. A real treat. Just since Saturday I’ve burned through episodes 1-6.

Been going through “Midsomer Murders” on Amazon Prime. It’s a British police procedural that has been running for well over 20 years.

Detroit’s got nothing on rural Midsomer County….

25 years. Wife and I have been big fans for years. We watched a special a few nights ago Titan “25 Years of Mid Somer Murders.”

    The Deuce

    HBOplus, 3 seasons.
By the creators of The Wire and Treme.
Set in 1971 Times Square this series takes you into the Dantean world of pornography, pimps and prostitutes. The porn biz that is run by Organized Crime is slowly shifting into a legitimate business as porno becomes more socially acceptable. Several characters embedded in the Life begin to pursue the business as a way out of Hell.
The show focuses on the day to day misery of the girls and brutality of the pimps, which ranges from psychological intimidation and casual slaps to beating and razor cuts. Even nastier is watching them play these girls like fiddles with mind games creating a sick daddylovesexslave codependence. The oft quoted "A pimp's love is different from the love of a Square" isn't funny in the least here.
NC-17++, with quite graphic sex, clinically filmed like watching animals mate.
The majority of the cast of The Wire is here, with James Franco as bar owner easing into fronting for Wiseguys and Maggie Glynnenhall as an ambitious but aging independent prostitute.

The 70s milieu is captured perfectly with blocks of abandoned buildings, trash covered streets and the diegetic soundtrack. The clothing is more accurate to what people actually wore as opposed to what was seen in magazine ads and TV shows.
It's very deliberately paced(slow!) and character focused. I'm 4 eps in and there is almost no perceptible movement in the plot. You are immersed in the lives of several characters in or on the periphery of the Life and building their stories and connections.

Extremely well made with excellent casting and performances. Not really a binge watch, very slow burn.

I’ve found that you and I have very similar tastes based on this thread so I’ll have to check this series out.

The Consultant on Prime. Kinda weird, kinda enjoyable, at least if you enjoy watching Christoph Waltz being evil.

I can't be the only one who watched The Quiet Man on St. Patrick's Day. No explanation needed.

I also watched the 1932 version of Scarface.

I'd never seen it before. Man, it's a classic for a reason. The acting is just tremendous and the script and direction really drive it home. The trailers that I found don't do it justice. The movie was very au courant when it was released. It brings that time to life and it still feels relevant today. Bonus points: it puts Bugs Bunny gangsters (think coin flipping tough guy) in context. The events in the movie are said to be based on real events and the St. Valentine's Day Massacre scene alone is worth the price of admission. It starts around 6:58 in the clip below (I couldn't get it to start there), but the whole clip is worth watching.
