Personally, I used to do the Chronicle of Higher Ed. crossword weekly or biweekly, pride myself on being well read on the classics and philosophy, but as far as I'm concerned, that doesn't diminish the legitimacy of enjoying the "Bosch" novels, or even Silva's "Gabriel Allon" series.
I get why kids enjoy them, I did at that age, and I've watched a bunch of them in the theater because my kids like them. I don't see the appeal they have to adults. But, I didn't like Lord of the Rings either. To each their own.

Well, if my favorite movie was a romantic comedy, I'd post it here, but it's not. My favorite movie is Heat. Heat's not an action movie either, it's a drama with a few excellent action sequences. The bank shootout is the GOAT movie shootout. The cafe scene with Deniro and Pacino is pure cinematic gold.

I've seen a fair amount of romcom's, my wife likes them. Some are better than others. None have made me cry though.

I teared up a little during the movie Wonder. I have a daughter who is physically disabled, she walks and gets around better than many others with her same condition and is very independent, but life is very hard for her. Would I have teared up if I didn't have a daughter who has experienced many of the same things the kid in the movie has? Most likely not but I still would have felt moved by it in some way.

I don't see the movie recommendations here as anything close to virtue signaling, just an indication that many of us have similar interests.

Oh and since I brought up Heat, it's only going to be available on Netflix until 4/1/19.

I've got the dvd. I'll send it to you if you ever jones too much. I trust you to return it within a year or two...kind of like my neighbor who still has "The Wire".

My best to you and your family. Give your daughter a hug from her distant forum great uncle. Hell, give 'em all one.

My wife and I binge watched the Hallmark Channel this last Holiday Season.

    There.

    I said it,.

(I will say she forbade me to turn back to the channel after I started to invent plot lines as the opening credits rolled:

“Here we have Chad, a lonely young Architect widower who’s wife died recently, who happens to run into Emily at the druggists at the small Vermont town he is stopping in at while looking for a Holiday Card for his Niece. Emily is a struggling writer searching for meaning in her Corporate life, who’s also in town on a surprise research trip from New York, staying an an Older Inn owned by a charming older couple who love Gardening and run the Library part time.” )

I'm sorry. You'll have to turn in your man card now. No exceptions...Regina, Ramona, or whatever your name is now. LOL!

Just a cover. She ran away because she couldn’t deal with Chad‘s shit anymore. Well, she did think about killing him and dragging his ass off into the woods for the coyotes to eat, but she thought better of it. For one thing, after they got married, Chad ballooned up to 350 pounds. And no scavenger with an ounce of self-respect would chew on his ass.
If we have to march off into the next world, let us walk there on the bodies of our enemies.

My all time favorite movie is the Bill Murray remake of, "The Razor's Edge."

It's a love story, wrapped in a philosophical drama, which ties into WW1, set in a couple different continents. Murray's greatest non-comedic movie.

Wasn't that Somerset-Maugham. I think I read that book years and years ago.

"Love, Actually" is the only romcom I've voluntarily watched more than once. The date proposal during the softcore porn scene may be the best example of British 'humour' ever committed to film, and Bill Nighy was classic:

"Sapiens dicit: 'Ignoscere divinum est, sed noli pretium plenum pro pizza sero allata solvere.'" - Michelangelo

Mine usually go the direction of Evil Dead or House of 1000 Corpses with a quickness.
