Yeah, it's easy to say, but if we did that how would that help anyone but the taxpayers and the guys carrying the weapons? The swamp creatures need to be feed, you know.

From the last paragraph of that article:

"While the P-320 is a great choice for the M-17, we may find that hallow point ammunition makes a much more significant contribution to U.S. defense than their gun."

I'm sure the ammo will be better than FMJ, but it probably won't be that good...

Agreed. It also seems to me that the complexity of the XM17 contract (particularly the ammunition aspect) opens more avenues to contest the award.
