Everybody can use a savage 99 with a rotary mag. Way better than a BLR

It’s ok to be wrong. I won’t think any less of you. 😊

Marlin is coming out with more of their "Dark"series of rifles chambered in .357,.44 and .444.
A 99 in .358 would be really neat but then again,a 99 in any caliber is really neat.Browning is still has the BLR in
    358,

I picked up a Marlin 1895G today. I've wanted one of these for years and by the time I had the money together for one, the quality had taken a nose-dive. They don't pop up on the used market around me and the new production ones I came across over the past few years were rough. I kicked around a few shops today and found a new one that looked great.

No major cosmetic issues. In fact, cosmetically, it looks nicer than a 336 in .30-30 I have from the New Haven, CT days.

It feeds and ejects as it should. The action isn't the smoothest but it doesn't feel different from the "JM" rifles I've handled and owned. I'll probably get it out tomorrow to test accuracy.

I plan on stopping this off with a scope. My 336 has Leupold 1.5 - 4 on it. That rifle handles and shoots well so I was thinking of something similar for the 1895G.

What is the consensus on a good optic for the .45 - 70? The main use for the rifle will be deer, bear, and the occasional hog hunt.

I'm kinda kicking myself for not buying the .30-30 99 I saw a couple years ago. At least I have one in .243 but I'd prefer one in .308.
