Longer sight radius gives the 6 inch revolver an edge in precision shooting. For field use, this length makes great sense and in magnum calibers the extra 2 inches permits achieving significantly higher velocity.

Model 17.
This example is the single most accurate .22 revolver I have personally ever fired. Owned by a former Sheriff's Deputy from eastern Oregon, and found by a buddy from the Milt Sparks shop who knew I was looking for one. Great price too. I actually need to carry/shoot it more, due to its capability.
My 1980 vintage Model 14 with Farrant grips. Duty gun that got me through the police academy:
Target hammer, standard trigger. It was retired from duty use when all our guns had to be converted to DAO.

The first indication a bad guy should have that I'm dangerous is when his
disembodied soul is looking down at his own corpse wondering what happened.
My 10 year old daughter put 10 rounds through my 386XL Hunter. I was quite impressed. The Scandium Frame made it easy for her to hold and the 6” barrel moderates recoil nicely.
This was her first range trip.

Just a Hairy Special Snowflake supply clerk with no field experience, shooting an Asymetric carbine as a Try Hard. Snarky and easily butt hurt. Favorite animal is the Cape Buffalo....likely indicative of a personality disorder.

We may lose and we may win, but we will never be here again.......
I'm trying to save this one. Storing incorrectly for years. Hardly shot.

She's quite the shooter. Very tight lock up. Shooter grade tho.
