I shot the security six this weekend. Very mild with .38 rounds. Much nicer to shoot than those j frames I had.

Possible line on Security Six, bbl length unknown, at a local pawnshop. Gonna take a look tomorrow. My son-in-law is a complete firearms novice and I want something simple to start his training...hope it's a 4-in. SS Single-Six.

Bet this goes for not much more than asking price.
I have some questions:
1) Who makes sights for the Security Six other than XS?
2) As far as grips, is there anything out there other than OEM wood or Hogue rubber grips?
Thanks,

I believe that Hamilton Bowen makes sights for the Security Six; he has an excellent reputation, although I've not personally sampled his work. Alternatively, you can search Ebay, et al for the discontinued (and much lamented) Millett sights-but they offered 2 different front sights, dependent upon you Security Six's year of manufacture, so do some research first. You can ascertain you revolver's year of manufacture by checking it against the list available on Ruger's website.
Regarding grips, other than what you've mentioned, the options are either pretty sparse or pretty expensive in most cases. You can check Numrich's/Quality Gun Parts site; they may have stocks of the older OEM and aftermarket grips, such as Sile's rubber grips, similar to Pachmayer's. I believe that Nill Grips also produces -Six series grips, but they're likely spendy. And, Tyler T-Grip adapters are still manufactured by Tyler f you choose to use the OEM small wood "splinter" grips.
Good luck!
Best, Jon
