    Another Great One has Passed

It is with profound sadness that I announce the death of Martin Fackler, M.D. Dr. Fackler was the progenitor of modern wound ballistics. Whether a warrior or guardian, we all owe him a huge debt of gratitude. In my case, it was only through Dr. Fackler's training and mentoring while I was doing my Residency and Fellowship that I ever even got involved in wound ballistics. I hope you rest in peace.

Wow, RIP. Doc, where would the state of the science be without his work?

I always saved those few of his wound ballistics works that turned up in the common medical journals.

He was the first modern physician to provide critical scientific measurement of bullet wound profiles with calibrated ballistic gelatin instead of using cadaver-pendulums, "one-shot stop" records, or shooting cattle, sheep or pigs and observing their reactions and "time to collapse".

    Requiscat in pace.

We are truly diminished. He brought scientific light to a world full of myths, lies, and legends - and we are better for it.

Damn, Gary… and you and I were just talking about him the other day…

We'd still believe that the 45 ACP stops bad people 19 times out of 20.

    RIP, Dr. Fackler.

Sounds like not only a professional, but also a personal loss. RIP, and condolences.

"Or maybe just a little bit more" (Jeff Cooper).

Not at all to denigrate Col. Jeff Cooper or certain others (like Evan Marshall), but the emphasis isn't on "magic bullets" or particular handgun calibers, but on bullet placement and adequate penetration.

Dr. Fackler helped to change the emphasis from caliber and bullet to what is hit and what the wound profile looks like.

Good work, done well; a good legacy.
