    1911 extractor clocking

    Just a quick sanity check.

I have a 1911 and the extractor exhibits a decent amount of movement when the gun is unloaded. With a round in the chamber there is no extractor movement.

What's the preferred way to check for clocking? Empty chamber or not?

    Is your brass ejecting fine?

Yes empty chamber. With a round in the chamber the clocking will be limited by the case itself. During the extraction and subsequent ejection the clocking can induce problems.

Assuming no dimensional problems with your extractor, if you have excessive or any clocking your firing pin stop is fit too loose.
