    Point Shooting Practice

    This concentration on the front sight is essential as a shooter’s skills improve. However, once a shooter has become competent enough to reliably place rounds on target, a different approach should be tried. I am referring to something called “point” or “instinctive” shooting. Basically, it’s shooting without using the sights at all.
    Point shooting can be remarkably accurate. I consistently make headshots on IDPA targets out to about 10 yards using this method.

    I'd like to see him make consistent head shots at 10Y without using his sights.

    Fairness leads to extinction much faster than harsh parameters.

    Well, I'm happy for him, but I can't make consistent head shots while point shooting at five yards. I do think point shooting is a necessary skill very close in (which I regard is maybe 10 feet or less), and perhaps there are some very talented people who can make amazing point shots on a consistent basis but I can't, and I doubt most people can either.

    Sights are a good thing.

    He's probably talking about a 6x6 head, not a 3x5; which I think is relatively easy to hit with taped over sights during slow-fire as he describes in the article. I'm not sure what the practical benefit of slow-fire shooting is with the sight's taped, since it's just slower than actually using the sights because you're just aiming with a coarser sight picture by using the whole gun. A true index-based shot at speed to a 10 yard head shot is definitely more difficult, but I don't think it's outside the realm of what a lot of good shooters can do.

    From the article:

    My personal favorite is XS 24/7 Express Big Dot sights...(snip)...these ride on all of my dedicated carry guns.
    Sigh...

    I actually ran Big Dots for several years, because seeing some sort of front sight is important, even it it's a big fat white dot.

    This is a stock G17 with Big Dots hitting B/C steel at the 125;
