    Thoughts on the FN SLP

I am about to pull the trigger on a defensive auto shotgun. I'm really leaning towards the SLP. Any thoughts or experiences? Good or bad?

Can't get mine to cycle birdshot, even with the light piston. I heard the Browning sporting clays piston will work. Haven't tried that. My Benelli M4 likes whatever I feed it. And with most shotguns, the stock is too long.

I bought one 3 or 4 years ago. The SLP Mark 1. Wouldn't run cheap birdshot for the first 200 shells or so. During that time it would run Winchester AA. After 200 rounds it has not malfunctioned since with any ammo, although I rarely use it. It hasn't been cleaned for about 2 years. It only gets used for dove and occassional waterfowl hunting. Shot low recoil winchester and remington slugs to POA right out of the box at 50 yards. The rail that came attached to the barrel is annoying and I should cut it off. The rear sight is a bit small in my opinion, but does allow for accurate shooting. I don't shotgun much but I have been pretty happy with my SLP.

    I hate mine.
Too much work to get them where they need to be for 3-gun, and even then, the more frequently encountered shotties are better.

I would not repeat the purchase.

I borrowed Iain Harrison's for my first CTC Midnight 3 Gun and (due to my own idiocy) wound up having to borrow one from a guy on my squad for the first night of my second. I liked it fine, but these were both guns that were obviously already set up and working, so I have no input on any teething problems or anything.

nb: I'm not really shotgun people to begin with.

So something from Benelli would likely be better?
