    Rail choices

I would like to add a 12-13" rail onto one of my AR's. The problem is that I want to keep the front A2 block on this gun. I know there are choices like the DD that will allow you to retain the A2, but everything I've seen so far is a quad rail. Does anyone know of a product that is a floated non quad, as I don't need that much rail space and would like to keep this one as light as possible. Thanks in advance

I think that's just about your only option out there for non-railed and free float.

Yeah I think that's it. I've taked with the guys at Brownells several times about this and they always tell me that quad is the only option...you da man!

If you're going for light as possible then using a smaller gas block instead of the A2 will obviously give you more options. Otherwise DD and Centurion make quad rails (Omega and C4 respectively) that are ~10oz (about the same as the Troy rail) that will let you retain your A2.

Strike Industries also has a couple in Keymod:

Any reason you don't want to shave the A2 and install whatever rail you and want and just use a fixed front sight instead, such as this?

For me it's about simplicity and reliability with this particular rifle. There is no doubt that the most bomb proof setup is pinned gas block. If I can keep it, I'm gonna try on this build

I agree, but shaving the FS and keeping the Gas Bock part doesn't seem to affect the reliability.

Exactly. Hack saw, Dremel, grill paint.

A buddy of mine who has done a bunch of those for his agency, uses a dremel and a cut off wheel, then some sort of abrasive head to clean it up. He does a really clean job, and it takes him about 1 hour per gun, fwiw.
