Fascinating thread.

I've been an on-again, off-again student & trainee of the pistol for the better part of about 4 years now. I still have what I consider to be sporadic success with accuracy, yet the general trend seems to be improving.

While at the range yesterday, I had a moment of epiphany when my vision became truly focused on the front sight during a string of fire for the first time in what seems to have been a long time----I believe that, prior to that moment, my eyes have been sprinting regularly between front sight and target/holes, mostly without my conscious awareness. In this magic moment, I could literally see minute details of the shape and features of the sight itself.

But for a simple-minded man like myself, a nagging question remains: if one's vision is absolutely focused on the front sight ONLY in, say, a 5-shot string of fire, how does one establish a practical frame of reference for each shot in terms of point of aim versus point of impact, especially for longer-distance shots?
