LL, Let me know if you decide you need a TacSol upper.
I'd just cobble together a SBR upper. I'm using a non-FA AR upper, 4.5" CMMG bbl and kit. The CMMG folks have done some very nice mods to the .22 ARs (compared to older school kits I used) and the 4.5" bbl keeps bulk .22 ammo subsonic.
After changing the lightened trigger spring I had with a black dog machine kit, it works great semi and FA.
How are those Tac Sol uppers? I'm currently debating between the govt style and the lightweight variant.
I do like mine, I think it is well made. I have the older model with the rail system. It's quite accurate.
You do need to use it with a rounded hammer, rather than a notched one, in your AR lower.
I just decided to standardize on the M&P 15-22 as that is what the rest of my shooting friends use. But my Tactical Solutions unit has been boringly reliable and very accurate. I may just give it to my daughter.
