Looks like Poland is getting the hint.
Will NATO act if Russia invades the Baltic states or Poland?

Imminent invasion or not (likely not), the Poles would do well to never let their military quality falter. They are the historical punching bag of their neighbors and would do well to eternally watch everyone and prepare for a fight.

Polish are warriors, had the honor of talking with some of their special forces on my way to and from country. Glad to see they are keeping that spirit.
my almost-8-year-old-son has multiple polish girlfriends. all I can say is, put their women on the front line. I wouldn't try and invade poland; them's some crazy chicks.
From doing some reading they may be headed more towards the Swiss defense model with their military

Living next door to an aggressive Bear yields a different perspective than living next door to a huge colony of carpenter ants that invade slowly and insidiously.

It's nice to see that their gun laws permit the ownership of modern defensive carbines and handguns.
While I understand the Poles historical fear of encroachment from the East AND WEST, I seriously doubt Putin has any short or medium term plans on them. Simply too far a bridge to cross both Politically and Militarily. Western Ukraine and the Baltics will fall long before Poland and something tells me that Russian occupation along with the Western sponsored insurgency (assuming article 5 is no enacted) would keep the Red Army busy for years. Also despite the typical Western view that Russians enjoy sending their kids off to war as fodder - outside of the defensive battles against Napoleon and the National Socialists - the Russian people have shown little stomach for wars of aggression and the losses involved.

Yes it is. Actually it seems that Poland has quite a few political and cultural attitudes I find attractive.
I agree. It would really be nice to see another country go this route. Seems to me that it is the perfect military model for a nation. Knowing that while you may be able to overrun a country but that you would then suffer an endless resistance of trained and pre equipped guerrilla fighters who will bleed your armies to death - would give hesitance to all but the most foolish or bold. That said - the model requires three things to work. A strong national and cultural unity, a willingness to allow the common man to posses military arms, and a willingness to give up on any ideas of interventionism. That pretty much makes it incompatible with modern governments.
