I've heard of and had trigger reset issues with multiple PPSs. The trigger starts randomly not resetting. It seems to happen a few thousand rounds into usage. I've never heard a satisfactory explanation and replacement parts from Walther appear to be identical to replacements--making me wonder if it is a wear issue. I haven't seen anything about it recently though.
I've read on Walther Forums some of the internals are picky about lube and dirt. And I dislike the "lock" mechanism built into the backstrap. YMMV
My first PPS, that I bought used came with the trigger randomly not resetting. S&W, which provided service at the time for Walther, ended up sending me a replacement gun.
For those of you who've had reset issues, what date codes were the pistols and what was the round count when the problems popped up? Also, what parts needed to be replaced? I picked up a PPS back in January after doing as much research as I could. I didn't find examples of reset issues and thankfully haven't experienced any. I'm not saying it didn't happen but I'm looking for more info in case I run into some of the same problems.
Parts replaced varies but is usually some parts of the trigger mechanism and/or disconnector.

Since I bought my PPS I used the small backstrap since I have medium sized hands. I never really gave the large backstrap any consideration, plus I had the Talon grip on it so I never thought about changing the backstrap. Well my Talon grip started peeling off so I removed it. I haven't put the replacement grips back on so I thought I'd try the large backstrap. Wow! I feel like I can get a much better grip on the gun with the large backstrap installed. I seem to remember Cecil saying that the large backstrap makes the PPS feel like a bigger gun and it really does. It does not affect the concealability or compactness of the gun but just makes it feel better in my hand. It also seems that mag change blisters will be less common with this setup and that's a bonus.

Front-to-back length is probably the single biggest thing for whether a grip fits me. Despite my small-ish hands, longer is better (though I'm sure there's a cut-off point).
As you said, that is what I have found.
It was most noticeable with my daughter. She is slightly on the tall side of average height for a female, but she has short fingers. That made some of the other pistols problematic to use, and directly led us (after prompting by Craig) to look at the PPS. She fell in love with it right away, and I was a little surprised because it had the larger backstrap already in place. My gut would have said she would prefer the small backstrap, but nope, the larger worked best. As it has for me, and most people I have known with the gun.
For me, there is a weird alchemy with the Talon grips combined with the large backstrap to make it the best "feeling" pistol I have.
