BATFE Intends to Revoke M855 AP Ammo Exemption

BATFE just released a new "framework" on AP ammo that would make new exemptions extremely unlikely and revoke the exemption that currently covers M855. http://www.atf.gov/sites/default/fil...g_purposes.pdf

    ILA initial alert here: https://www.nraila.org/articles/2015...mon-ar-15-ammo

    From the ILA alert:
Federal law imposed in 1986 prohibits the manufacture, importation, and sale by licensed manufacturers or importers, but not possession, of “a projectile or projectile core which may be used in a handgun and which is constructed entirely . . . from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium.”
What are the implications for this as "green" ammo becomes more common (and even legislatively required)?

2 tough years ahead. Charlie Atkins wrote in my copy of his autobiography, "Keep your powder dry old sport."

While the ATF has the authority to essentially interpret any law how they see fit, the issues will continue beyond two years.

A lot, although copper isn't one of the listed materials, but there is only so much copper. AP ammo is one of those subjects that is very difficult to explain to a non-gun owner, but most people with a basic understanding of how ammunition and armor work understand the futility of the ban.

Elections have consequences. Ashcroft signed the 1st AG statement ever understanding the 2nd Amendment as an individual right.

If you want to ensure that you have some M855, yes. If you just want to avoid the likely price increase (hopefully temporary) on all 5.56/.223 due to a giant chunk of ammo in the system potentially becoming unsaleable by FFLs, you could buy any 5.56/.223.
