Those are legit critiques in some aspects, but off the mark in others.
We use cardboard backers that are on uprights with a 24" center. The widest edges of the paper on these targets is 23". If at seven yards your are missing so badly that you are hitting the uprights, you shouldn't be playing with guns.
The FAST is shot at 7 yards and not 25; so, the head box being visible at 25 yards was not factored into the design. The head shots on the Rangemaster qualification course and the GA SQC are not shot at 25 yards; so, again, seeing the head box at 25 yards wasn't a priority of the design. It is also of note that on our standard state target, the scoring boxes are drawn with very faint dotted lines specifically so that they can't be seen from a distance. The idea behind that is so that shooters will go for center mass of the appropriate area and not at boxes on the target. While you may disagree, I would hear the exact opposite from the GALEFI board which has say on targets that are used for qualifications here.
The Casino Drill is shot on the colored shapes represented, and not 2" circles; so, replacing them with 2" circles was not contemplated.
As for repairing the head box, I figured simply using a 3x5 index card would work.
If a shooter puts up a target and has a 50 round box of ammo, they could run the FAST once and the Casino twice on the same target. All that would need to be marked on the Casino would be misses. The shapes could be negative targets on the second run. Having shot the Casino twice on the same target, I know it works. I understand that it wouldn't hold up to sustained running of the Casino. That's why I buy plenty of targets...
Both Tom and Todd reviewed the target prior to my sending it to the printer. It's the TxT; not the TxTxGJM.
