The aerospace department had one when I was in college. Everyone liked it.

I have to suspect he was referring to harmonization of the controls, instability about some axis, stall/spin characteristics, or something truly arcane. But, I just don't know!
    My apologies to weasels.

Well, at least you didn't get hit with a π in the face.

That would have been an endless disaster if there ever was one...

They're used a lot here for float service to the little islands - it's my favourite plane to fly on by far. I have six or eight prepaid tickets with the local float service as the result of a deal I did a few years ago and I basically only use them to spend time on those. I don't think I have ever used one because I actually had to be somewhere, I just love the planes and of course then I tell the pilot about it and they usually start waxing about their love of the plane also and the entire experience ends up being just a ton of fun.

I have yet to ride this one, though:

I believe it's one of the first all-electric planes in commercial service. No idea what that's like but I will say that a steady, low-to-midrange RPM engine that needs a lot of torque and doesn't have to run for long periods seems like a pretty good application for electric.

    Hot.
This is a thread where I built a boat I designed and which I very occasionally update with accounts of using it, which is really fun as long as I'm not driving over logs and blowing up the outboard.

North American PBJ-1H Carrier Suitability Evaluation

Although the "more-oddities" post states that it was an additional evaluation of the carrier suitability of a tricycle landing gear airplane, my guess is that it was an improvement on a plan to use PBJs for close air support of landings on the Japanese main islands. The concept was to launch them from an aircraft carrier, à la Doolittle, and have them land back at an airfield for turnaround and to be craned back aboard an aircraft carrier to repeat. For one thing, an evaluation of carrier takeoff and landing suitability did not require a demonstration of the ability to strike a dud below deck.
