    Airplanes

I like airplanes. All of 'em, pretty much, but there is a special place in my heart for neat airplanes that never got the recognition they deserve. Not F-15's and Vipers or test planes or prototypes, but cool planes that worked well but will never be the hero vehicle in Top Gun II.

    Planes like the F-5:

The Cessna Dragonfly (really, Super Tweet):

and the F-8 Crusader and A-7 Corsair II:

Which was funny because MIG fighters are always odd numbered.....

I LOVE me some F-5s. And the F-20 Tigershark (that never was) is especially awesome.

Also, I've got this thing for the B-1B. Isn't there a Bone driver here?

F-5/F-20 - agree. There's a cool old History Channel documentary on YouTube about them. I dig the hell out of the Lancer. Gorgeous aircraft. I like anything with swing wings, though.

When I was in the 6th grade, I attended the Reno Air Races with an uncle. He is friends with someone involved with the Czech Mate unlimited team. His friend was involved enough that I spent the entire time at the air races in the Czech Mate "pit" as it were, and various other awesome places behind the scenes at the races. Hell of a thing for a 12 year old.

I took a tour of the Bone at EAFB, cockpit and all . Very much like a Jaguar of the skies. Its also equally unreliable as a vintage British car, sadly. Rough showing at the 2012 Dakota Thunder airshow, when two left the dock and only one made it to the runway. I felt bad for the flight crew on the broken bird-half the population of South Dakota was watching them, and their jet broke down at home base.
