Was out fishing the other day and got a short video of a Dehavilland Beaver on floats. They're the only planes that turn my crank, particularly...and this one has the old Wasp Jr radial engine. I just love it. My kid recognizes the sound and always shouts "Dad favourite plane!" when he hears it. But this is a really close flyover. I was super stoked.

This is a thread where I built a boat I designed and which I very occasionally update with accounts of using it, which is really fun as long as I'm not driving over logs and blowing up the outboard.

I flew an original turbine Beaver for a number of years and it was an amazing machine. Got off the water like a lightly loaded Super Cub and would go nearly 150 knots on amphibs at altitude.

And, in another part of the world:

What is wrong with the Beaver?

A question for those who have flown them (@GJM, etc.).

Context: Students at test pilot schools are given opportunities to fly many unfamiliar and diverse types of aircraft. Then tasked with writing up evaluations of them that are used as a teaching/learning tool.

I remember reading somewhere a quote from a graduate of the Navy test pilot school that went something like: "The Beaver was great in that there were so many things wrong with it..."

I've always thought they were super cool and if I won a medium sized lottery it would be an early purchase. I understand how something can be a hot mess and still be incredibly useful but I would like to know. Just what is wrong with the Beaver?
    My apologies to weasels.

A sarcasm conundrum - go with something about asking Ward or something less suitable for all ages....
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

As I typed the question, I knew how it sounded. Sadly, I did not choose to change it to DeHavilland, L-20, or U-6. @blues has nothing to fear from me in the pun department.
