Thread: Speer Gold Dot G2: Too Soon To Buy In?

  1. #81
From a question I posed to speer....
Bought some G2 ammo the other day...I understand there may be an issue with some failing denim test and not expanding. Please advise

    Their answer:
Ed: the product is tested against the FBI Protocol and denim is not part of that testing regime.

The FBI spec "heavy clothing" test is very specific as to materials used, and was developed before the IWBA came up with the four layer denim testing

3, 4, and 6in barrel test. Yikes is all I have to say. I'm wondering how soon until this stuff is recalled...

Let's just pretend I've come up with a clever "I told you so" that doesn't make me sound like the arrogant jerk that I am...

First post on this forum. Followed Doc from the last TWO forums to get info.
I just got some G2 (Like a dumbass I ordered it thinking it would be awesome... found this forum too late)

They expanded and shed all petals from a G26 (One out of the three kept one petal) Redneck wetpack test from 4 feet.
The rounds in the background are 7 year old corbon DPX .380 from a G42 for random testing (functioned fine, i read that the barnes TACwhatever loaded stuff does not work in a glock). And a single Critical defense. The Rifle bullets are 62gr Barnes handloads for fun.

Speer needs to get their act together and fix this shit quick, fast, and in a hurry. They and their Gold Dot line had such a fantastic reputation before this, and now....yikes.

As noted earlier, HST had this same problem when first introduced, and now it is one of the best loads available. Be patient.
