    "Essentially a $3,000 gun in a $300 shell"

Sorry if this is off-topic, but maybe some of you will find this as humorous as I just did:

A customer just came out of the range and asked to see what we had for 9mm 1911's. He commented that he has a Rock Island that he's swapped a bunch of Wilson Combat parts into so now he has "essentially a $3,000 Wilson Combat in a $300 shell." Unbelievable.

Isn't it hard not to go off when someone says stiff like that (i know it is)?

Some folks just don't quite understand what makes a great 1911. RIA is great for the money, but short of gutting everytHing but the slide and frame, it's not a$3000 Wilson.

My guess is that machining precision/accuracy differences would necessitate junking the slide and frame too, but you can probably keep the grips.

Those are, sweartagawd, the exact words that crossed my mind.

I can explain it to you. I can’t understand it for you.

Even the grips are likely out of spec junk. Do not ask me how I know.....

Incomplete. The entire statement should be "...in a $300 Filipino slag metal shell."

The man is a genius. I am going to put Ferrari disc brakes, tie rods, control arms and a steering wheel in a Civic and go win some races.
This is a thread where I built a boat I designed and which I very occasionally update with accounts of using it, which is really fun as long as I'm not driving over logs and blowing up the outboard.

Nah. All you need is a STI badge and some plastic aero bits, and you're good to go.
