I have a Super B in 9x19mm with a quite decent trigger that looks cleaner than any I can find on GunBroker and won't get through a mag of quality ammo without two or five failures.

Should I rent a 9mm Largo reamer and buy some Starline brass and dies?

A Star BM was my first autoloader, bought new from the Ft. Ord Rod & Gun Club in '81. It shot well, even though the front sight seemed to have been installed backwards. I traded it about a year later on a Series 70 Gubmint Model which is still in the family, passed on to my son.

Just a few months back a few gun stores got in some imported surplus BMs.

    Are the BMs "drop safe"?

Did these ever make any inroads into American LE?

To the best of my limited knowledge, no to both questions. They're essentially a scaled-down 1911 clone, including the inertial firing pin. Series 70 and earlier 1911s aren't drop-safe either, though the extra-power FP spring helps in that regard.

I had a Star for a while. It hurt my hand, seemed to kick worse than a .45 1911 gun. It also would only hand ball ammo, hollow points would not feed. Sold it and didn't look back.
