gunned down at the Waffle House

Officer Kevin Jordan of the Griffin (GA) Police Department was working an extra duty job at the Waffle House last night. A women and two men were ejected for their drunken behavior. Jordan escorted them out. The woman put up a fight. As Jordan tried to cuff her, her boyfriend pulled a gun and shot Jordan multiple times in the back. Jordan did not survive.

Jordan's brother had come to the Waffle House to see his brother. He was in the parking lot when the shooting occurred. He is not a cop, but thankfully, he was a legally armed citizen. He shot the perp. The perp is in critical but stable condition.

I am reminded that Jared Reston's incident where he was shot in the face with the .45 ACP occurred while he was working an extra duty gig at a mall and attempted to arrest a shoplifter.

Any call can be the one that turns deadly.
I had an ER nurse in a class. I noticed she kept taking all head shots. Her response when asked why, "'I've seen too many people who have been shot in the chest putting up a fight in the ER." Point taken.

    Godspeed, Officer.

Shot over a waffle house dispute. That's a dire predictor of society.

Heard this on WSB news this afternoon. Terrible, terrible incident. They had a brief interview with Officer Jordan's brother, who said he only regretted that he didn't kill the perp.

I've seen some cops doing off duty jobs who were obviously tired and zoned out after working the whole day or had their faces buried in their smartphones (speaking generally, certainly not trying to imply that was the case here), which strikes me as a real SA risk. Hopefully this is a reminder to some that there are always opportunistic predators and unhinged animals walking around out there, even if you're not "on duty."

May Officer Jordan rest in peace and not be forgotten.

WSB reported that the shooter had a GWCL as well as Officer Jordan's brother. Have you heard anything to that effect?

I haven't heard that, but I haven't sought evidence to prove or disprove it either.

My thoughts and prayers are with Officer Jordan's family, friends and fellow officers. May they receive comfort and strength during this time of trial.
