Stoeger Cougar 8000F - Why does nobody talk about it?

Seems like a metal framed PX4 in some ways.

What sucks about it? Any high round count ones? Does it use Beretta M9 magazines?

The mag catch notch is higher on a 9mm Cougar than on a 92 magazine, at least it was when the Cougar was under the Beretta name.

Well, it's a design that was a sales flop when it was sold by Beretta and so they sent the tooling to their Turkish subsidiary...

The cougar that I had was simply unreliable. I had major fail to feed problems and fail to eject issues.

The PX4s I use are all reliable pistols.

There are some differences between the two pistols despite conventional wisdom telling us that they are exactly the same. The cam block, recoil spring, barrel, slide, not to mention magazine are all different.

Some of the people who did buy it were LE agencies...and they had a devil of a time with it. I had dinner with one of the top trainers from a relatively large agency that bought Cougars and he couldn't even say the word "Beretta" without clenched teeth.

Which is pretty soft shooting for a .45.

I had an 8357, in .357 SIG. It had excellent ergonomics, was compact, and seemingly made of high quality materials and very nicely finished. Unfortunately, it was not reliable (extraction/ejection issues), and was subject to seizing up after some 100+ rounds had gone down the pipe. No matter how much I wanted to like it, at the end of the day, I simply couldn't trust it. It went away...

    Best, Jon

FTE's soak up a lotta recoil impulse.
