Thread: Freestyle shooting at 25 yds revisited

  1. #1951
Shot my first B8 at 25 yards today… It was also my first time shooting with a red dot (the Holocaust SCS), mounted on a Glock 19 MOS. Scored a 69 with 1 lucky X.

What’s the standard procedure—10 rounds, unlimited time? Or is there a time limit?

The only time limits are self-imposed, whether they’re germane to a specific drill, a specific test, or relevant for competition.

I am a Precision Pistol/Service Pistol shooter exclusively (used to be USPSA, but arthritis and heart failure put a stop to that), so I’m shooting B8s at either a 5rd per 10 second or 20 second pace strong hand only, depending on the session and its focus.

From what I have seen in this thread, most folks are shooting at about that 2-4 second split pace. Confirmed and aimed individual shots, but not wasting time.
Well, you may be a man. You may be a leprechaun. Only one thing’s for sure… you’re in the wrong basement.

A 96-1 in Rapid Fire from the Officer’s Model Match (Short Action). Sights are still in need of a couple clicks, but there’s nothing like a factory short action Colt… makes shooting K-frames in Rapid Fire feel like ice skating uphill.

It's wholly up to you. I shoot far too many B8's, no time limit, at 25 yards, no time limit, chasing the elusive Hundo. I can consistently hit upper 90's, and I'm damn sure agitated when they're not all in the black.

I'm amazed at some of the guys that can hit 98-100 in times of 20 seconds or less.

Haven't posted in a hot minute, but after too long a hiatus, finally been able to start getting back to the range. Not going to lie, have been frustrated at best about where my skills are. This was a respectable attempt, especially for running DA only.

Finally got 100, and with 6X. Ruger Mk III 22/45 with ancient RMR. CCI Standard Velocity Target.

Coulda been, probably was, the cataract surgery, although eyes still not settled (have other issues which doc said would require glasses to get max correction).

Springfield Garrison 1911, .45 ACP 230 Federal Hi-Shok JHP. Stock rear sight, Dawson FO front at 0.180", top of front sight hold. 2 hand unsupported, slow fire. 79-0x but all on paper (barely!) I think I believe now what the manual says about this being a 6 o'clock hold, as I would have scored higher I think.

Here’s today’s effort. 92-2x (maybe 3x) with a Glock 19 and Holosun SCS. No holster work allowed at my range, so I set a 17 second par time and start from the high ready as a conservative Modified Hat Qual. This was 15.7 seconds.

Interestingly, this is about as good as I can do right now. When trying unlimited time, slow fire, surprise trigger break, I tend to get shaky and end up in the mid-80s.
