Thread: Freestyle shooting at 25 yds revisited

I dunno if @GJM has any videos, I don't, but we just finished shooting a great match, a Colorado state. A.k.a Bighorn Classic. Besides an incredible scenery ...

...there was a bunch of 30 yards targets. Fun but not funny.

It’s not much, but here’s the best 25 yard slow fire group I’ve put up so far. It’s a 95 3x if I’m scoring it right, with two fliers that I knew were bad but couldn’t accurately call.

25 yards DAO with my M9A1 w/ LTT trigger job and RDO, decocked between shots. Probably a little lazy with the support hand as POI is a little low compared to when firing single action.

Nothing impressive, but I felt pretty good about this group. First five rounds during a range session a few days ago, 25 meters not yards, cardboard target in front of a sand berm, cheap S&B bulk ammunition. Shot single action with my Beretta PX4 9mm, this range session brought the rounds fired this year count for this firearm past 500.

Pretty much exactly a 3" group.

(It was a good day overall for me. Some of my draws from my 6005 were below 2 seconds, Mozambique Drills from the 8ish meter mark were darn close to 3 seconds... Like I said, nothing impressive by the forums standards, but for me it was a good day.)

    Something completely different.

25 yards shooting each shot as an R1 (ready, one shot). It's a variation of one of the stages of Kevin B's standard he calls The Practical.

I shoot it often with 1911s and Glocks but yesterday it was with a couple of rimfires. A brand new S&W M&P Compact 22 and more to the point of the post, my 351C .22 magnum.

OK, learnings akimbo. The gun tends to POI high anyway. On top of that is the phenom of small iron sights on a snubby and the visual tendency to try and see that front sight which often leads to seeing too much front post and ipso facto hitting high.
With my old man close distance vision, this manifests strongly in me.

I was trying put these into that 5x8 index card. FAIL. But I was pretty happy with the group and centered consistency. I MIKED the first try but then printed these in a time range of 1.85 - 2.75 seconds.

This leetle j-frame has about an 18 lb trigger or some shit. But dang. I'm gonna shoot this some more.

Spent a couple of hours training. Found no limit 9mm yesterday and needed to test it out.

    Regards.

Bounced some steel 8” plates before the heat got to me.

Gotta drag my Gold Cup NM out in the near future.
