Grip. The small size of the PX4 makes you focus harder on your grip. The more comfortable, larger P09 lets you get away with more slop in your grip and still "feel" good. Same reason a lot of guys shoot a G19 or G26 better than a G17. Dial in your grip on the P09 paying extra attention to your index points and pressure (consistency is key) and I'll bet those "flyers" disappear.

    Interesting. I’ll work on it.

    Keyhole? Really?

First world problems. Plus I’ve almost shot a case of Tula. Need more.

2.6” group from 147 HST / EDC X9 combo. Hit tip of front sight but I aimed low.

Today was our quarterly qualification. While we were waiting around for the sun to set so we could shoot the low light portion, I asked the other guys if they would mind if I put up a B8 and shot a group. I managed to pull off a 97 with my primary duty gun. The best 25y B8 I’ve shot to date.

The one I dropped in the 8 ring was my third shot. I haven’t fired a live round for a few weeks prior to today.

Nice, we (FIs) were messing around with 50 yard freestyle shooting on “Tom Ridge” at lunch today. The RDS is like cheating but I was able to get 17/17 in Tom and 14/17 in the 5 with my duty G17 and HDs.

I have our guys doing a 50 yard “fam fire” as an AFTE. 1 mag - 4 standing, 4 kneeling supported on a blue barrel and 4 prone. Best student of the day got 10/12 in Tom. Worst was 0/12 but 3 on paper. Most got around 5/12. And to think at one time that was a standard part of the COF.

Freestyle shooting at 25 yds revisited

I’ve been warming up with some 25 yd groups. Today was a little frustrating because when I was taking my time and aiming carefully, my groups weren’t up to par (e.g left target).

For my last group, I said fuck it and shot as soon as the sight returned— about 0.5s splits. See right target for results. Isn’t that interesting? (Shadow2, iron sights, freestyle)

I do the same thing with a crisp trigger break.

Double action or rolling break gives me the most repeatable/on-demand accuracy.

So there I was, just put up the 43X and 19X I was shooting and comparing mild weather shooting to last several outings with cold hurting hands, and shifted to get some 1911 work in.

I got sort of excited about these first 5.

So then I figured, five more like the big kids can do on PF.

10th shot shanked low. But that's not the worst of it. There are only 9 hits on that B8 center. First or 2nd of the second 5 is off the damn paper at 12:00. Oh well.

Just a paper tear. Not a keyhole.
