Freestyle shooting at 25 yds revisited

Most of my rounds are centered in general, and my 2 other targets that day (1 at 10yd w/ G47, 1 at 25yd w/ 17L) were more centered. The 10yd was at the same 1 shot a second cadence, the 17L 25yd was 1 shot every ~3 seconds.

I do tend to throw more rounds left than right when I'm off target though. But also this is only my second outing with the G47 since I've installed the RDS on it, and first time taking it to 25yd, having zero'd it in a rush at 10yd at the indoor range prior.

So it could be my technique if off (always the most likely theory), my aim could have been off due to shooting in a rush, or I may be saved by the improperly zero'd RDS alibi

It was fun shooting at 25yd, so I plan to do more of these, and I'll see if a pattern emerges. Is there considered a good time standard for 25yd? I know 'the test' @ 10yd is considered 10 seconds or under.

The “Defoor Hat Qual” is 20 seconds at 25y.

If you zeroed at 10 without confirming at 25, it’s very possible that much of a shift could be zero.

I zeroed my SCS(on my G26MOS) for 25 yards and have been slowly trying to improve.
First pictures are last November. 10 rounds fired but only 4 on target and 2 of those barely.



Second picture is from April 9th. 5 founds fired and 5 on target but one of those barely.


GJM(and others), and the Defensive Pistol Matches I participate in have inspired me to improve my 25 yard accuracy. Once I can repeatedly hit a 6" circle at 25 yards I'll work on doing it faster.

Third picture is my reduced size targets across my living room. They are scaled for 6 feet away represent a 25 yard target. Sitting on my loveseat I'm 21 feet away from the wall(Don't mind Kai Baby, he's recuperating from surgery).

I already posted this in the G26 Gen5 thread... but I'll put it here too. I haven't shot a handgun in a couple months now IIRC, so I knocked the rust off with a couple rapid fire groups on B8's at 7 yards, keeping them all in the black, then ran another B8 out to 25 and banged this out in one slow, but continuous string of fire.

Keep at it. Practice, and try new things. Seemingly small things can have a big impact at 25 yards. Grip really seems to matter, and I still have not mastered it.

And for every group that gets posted here, plenty of folks shoot groups that are a lot bigger that never get posted. I still struggle with low left shots when shooting my Glocks. I shot the 26 far better than my 19 today, with which I tossed quite a few rounds into the 8 ring after shooting the above group.

I have been listening to podcasts with Hwansik Kim and learning about his "vision focus." I will be trying a 25-yard target in the next week; I have a red dot to zero. We'll see if the new things I'm learning help.

Did 3 attempts at the Defoor 'Hat Qual' drill:

Defoor Proformance Pistol Hat Qual (original version 2012-2022)
Standing from 25 yds into an NRA B-8 Repair center. Using an electronic shooting timer draw and fire 10 rounds under 20 seconds and score 90 or better during a class. Three attempts only. Passing score receives a DPS hat.



Didn't pass Target 1 or 3, but did solid on Target 2 (also my fastest) - only to realize now I only loaded 9rd in the mag so it doesn't count
